I like to have guests,
life is good at my house,
the entertainment can go on
often until broad daylight.
Although I am always bored,
whatever people do or say,
what I permit myself as host
I will not tolerate in my guests!
And if I see anyone tiring
of being here with me,

and throw him out of the door.

why I do that.

ce qui m'est permis en tant que maître de maison!
Et si j'en vois un
qui s'ennuie chez moi,
je l'empoigne sans plus de façons
et le fiche à la porte.
Et si vous voulez savoir
pourquoi j'agis ainsi ...

EISENSTEIN
Oui, pourquoi?

ORLOFSKY
C'est chez moi la coutume,
chacun à son goût!

EISENSTEIN
Eh bien, votre serviteur, si l'on fiche à la porte
tous ceux qui s'ennuient ici, alors tous les invités
ne peuvent que bien s'amuser. Ha, ha, ha!

ORLOFSKY
Quand, buvant en compagnie,
je vide une bouteille après l'autre,
chacun doit avoir soif avec moi,
sinon je deviens fort désagréable!
Et quand je remplis un verre après l'autre,
je n'admets aucun refus.
Je ne puis souffrir que l'on s'écrie:
Je ne veux pas, j'en ai assez!
A celui qui ne boit pas sur mon ordre
et fait, tel un nigaud, des simagrées,
je lance sans façons
la bouteille à la tête.
Et si vous me demandez,
pourquoi j'agis ainsi?

EISENSTEIN

da me si fa la bella vita,
ci si diverte come si vuole,

nei miei ospiti non posso tollerarlo.
E se vedo che da me
qualcuno s'annoia,
senza riguardi l'afferro
e lo metto alla porta.
E chiedetemi, vi prego,
perché mai lo faccio?

EISENSTEIN

ORLOFSKY
Da noi questo è l'uso,
chacun à son goút!

EISENSTEIN
Allora, perdonate, se ognun che qui s'annoia
viene gettato fuori, tutti gli ospiti
si divertiranno da pazzi! Ah, ah, ah!

ORLOFSKY
Quando bevo il vino con gli amici
e vuoto una bottiglia dopo l'altra,
ognuno come me deve aver sete,
oppure divento assai brutale.
E se vuoto un bicchiere dopo l'altro,
obiezioni non ne ammetto;
non tollero che esclamino:
non voglio, ne ho abbastanza!
A chi non mi ubbidisce,
a chi da allocco si comporta,
senza riguardi lancio
la bottiglia sulla testa.
E chiedetemi, vi prego,
perché mai lo faccio?

EISENSTEIN
No, non lo chiedo più.
